We just returned from the 62nd Southern District ITE Annual Meeting in Greensboro, GA. We had over 20 members/affiliates and 4 students representing the Alabama Section in attendance. We led off the Section Roll Call with a sing-a-long to “My Home’s in Alabama”.
The technical sessions were very informative, with a variety of transportation topics covered. Individual sessions were themed with famous song titles that closely matched the topic and content covered in the session – a neat touch by the Georgia Section. Becky White delivered a presentation entitled “ITE Leadership Program”, Rod Turochy served as moderator of the Monday technical session entitled “Freeze Frame”, which focused on modeling and simulation. Becky Malenke also presented in a session where each of the Southern District’s five participants in LeadershipITE presented on their experience and individual assignments they are conducting.
ALSITE’s Traffic Bowl team was very competitive! Tommy Lee, James Foster, and SDITE Traffic Bowl Committee Chair Richard Caudle ran gameplay for all of the preliminary rounds on Monday and the final round on Tuesday. We finished a close second to eventual SDITE Champion SCSITE (Clemson) in the preliminary round.
At the Annual Banquet, the Alabama Section did very well! ALSITE won the Outstanding Small Section Award for the fifth year in a row! Richard Caudle received the Marble J. Hensley Outstanding Individual Activity Award, and James Foster received the John F. Exnicios Government Employee Outstanding Service Award. Finally, Mahdi Pour Rouholamin (Auburn University) won 2nd Place for Best Graduate Paper. We are very happy for our award winners!
We had a great time and want to encourage attendance at future SDITE Annual Meetings. The next SDITE Annual Meeting will be in Biloxi, MS from April 19 – April 22, 2015.
