ALSITE 2015 Spring Meeting

The ALSITE 2015 Spring Meeting was held in the Barn at American Village Citizenship Trust in Montevallo, AL on Thursday, March 12. The meeting opened with a great performance from one of the actresses at American Village portraying the famous 18th Century poet Phillis Wheatley, the first African-American female to have her work published.

We had seven great presentations on our technical program, including our 2nd consecutive year of presentations from our student chapters to showcase their previous, current, and future activities.

  • Drop Lanes vs. Lane Reductions…There IS a Difference
  • Birmingham Northern Beltline Project
  • ITE Student Chapter Presentations
  • Transportation Research at UAB
  • Transportation Research at Auburn University
  • Transportation Research at UAH
  • Transportation Research at the University of Alabama

The Spring Section Meeting plays host to the Student Traffic Bowl Competition between the ITE Student Chapters of Auburn, Alabama, and UAB – with the winner of the competition moving on to the Southern District ITE Traffic Bowl Competition in Biloxi in April. The Student Traffic Bowl Competition follows the same format of the game show “Jeopardy”, with the questions all being transportation related. The match came down to “Final Jeopardy”, and in the end, the Auburn University ITE Student Chapter pulled out the victory, and earned the right to represent the Alabama Section in the Southern District Competition at the Southern District Annual Meeting in Greensboro, GA. All three teams represented their ITE Student Chapters very well.

The 2015 ALSITE Annual Meeting will be held at the Beach Club in Gulf Shores, Alabama on Wednesday, June 3 through Friday, June 5.  This year’s annual meeting will again be a joint meeting with Deep South ITE.  Be on the lookout for additional details on that meeting, and there may even be a few new wrinkles to this year’s meeting…stay tuned.
